El Mayor Amor

El Mayor Amor

Bienvenidos (Welcome)

Thank you for taking the time to visit my humble blog; it's not much, but it's a place for me to share the ways the Lord is directing, leading, and teaching me to those I love most. The destination is Esperancita, Honduras... a small town in the tropical countryside of Honduras, where God has led me to a mission field of orphaned children who have stollen my heart. The mission is this... to share the love of my Savior Jesus Christ in every way, and every day with these precious children. Esperancita translates to "little hope" in English, and yet I have no small hope for what the Lord can accomplish through my life, and through the lives of these children. I chose to title the blog "El Mayor Amor" (The Greatest Love), because I know the greatest Love quite personally. I love Him, because He first loved me! And, as the Bible commands, I seek to share that all-too-wonderful love with the children to whom the Lord has led me. As I aim to raise these children in the ways of the Lord, and assist with their most basic of needs (physical) and even their most complex of needs (love), please pray for me; That the love of my Savior would shine through my every action, and every deed... that in this area of "little hope" I could demonstrate the "greatest love" that points directly to Christ!

Update from Sarah via Kate

Hello faithful friends and supporters of Sarah,

This is Kate, her sister, updating for her.  Sarah went into the city this week but ran out of time to stop in at the internet cafe.  Since it's been so long since her last update, she asked me to attempt to update for her.  I will not be as well-written as she is, but I'll do my best to pass along what she has told us (my mother, father and me) over the phone over the past few weeks.

The boss of the ninas was recently removed for some reasons we're unsure of, so Sarah moved in with the girls.  After one night of staying in the dormitory, she was very disturbed by the conditions and insisted the girls move in with her at the clinic, even though it is nowhere near refurbished.  She is very busy taking care of the girls, as they are out of school on break right now and with her all day.  She gets up 2 or 3 hours before them in the morning to get some things done before she wakes them around 7:30.  She said there is so much they don't know or understand, including how to open a car door.  That brought tears to my eyes, thinking how so many of us have owned multiple vehicles in our lifetime, and these beautiful young children may have never ridden in a motorvehicle.

Sarah was in high spirits.  She is doing a lot of disciplining, which is to be expected.  She currently has 9 of the girls living with her in the clinic, 3 each in 3 rooms.  She does have  set of bunk beds in one, but the other two rooms are only equipped with mattresses on the floor, as well as her NEW DRESSERS! (she had posted pictures of these in a previous post.)

There is so much for her to be teaching these young ladies, including how to properly shower.  They all have parasites and lice, but she is already working on combatting the lice.  She is waiting on any parasite treatment plans until the girls realize they can't drink the local water anymore or eat food from any of the other bosses or dormitories.  Sarah is trying to explain to them that it's what is harming them, and is giving them some time to think about it before she gets into any rigorous dietary plan.  Once they start the parasite treatments, she will insist they only drink the filtered water (which she is blessed to have and SOO thankful for), and can only eat the food Sarah makes. {Thank you again to Wheeling Financial for your generous donation of the Water Purifier Systems!}

Sarah explained to us that she is working on explaining and teaching the girls the value of things and how to be responsible with your belongings.  She is considering and praying over the idea of  paying the girls for the small chores she asks them to do, and then if they need a new shower caddy or piece of clothing because they didn't take care of it, they will use their chore money to replace it.  She also mentioned that the girls absolutely love the puzzles and Spanish books that she has there at the clinic, so thank you to whomever donated those items, including Martin Memorial Library!

I think that's just about everything major that we discussed with her.  We were blessed enough to hear some of the girls' sweet voices as Sarah prompted them to say their names in English.  It was truly a sweet moment as Mom, Dad and I gathered around the speaker phone. : )

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Sarah.  God is providing her new strength with each morning.  For His joy does come in the morning!

blessings,
Kate (Sarah's favorite sister)
